900 Watts of total heating power. Hope to have a few more finished by spring...

Kirk,
Great lineup there! Well that room should stay cozy this winter. :) I see you have some true NTSC format sets there (Never Twice Same Color). You are going to have more done by spring? Gee am I falling behind or what?! :( Wanna come visit and work on some more when you are done all of yours? :) Rob |
Hey Kirk,
Nice display.:p: I especially like the "Pensbury" model provincial console in the middle. A very classy set. Like Rob's collection, it's always refreshing to see an uncluttered gathering of these fine round tube beauties.;) |
Great sets!!!

Very nice!
Especially that monster Magnavox!
I was curious about some of the sets I see in the background, how bout some pictures of those? Eric |

My latest purchase, a Philco 15" prototype color set. I finally just brought it home today, only did a little cleaning and looking around so far. The CRT appears to be intact, but won't know for sure until I can look under the purity coil for the flashing.

Outstanding!
Chuck,
I first saw your Philco on Steve McVoy's site last month. It totally blew me away:p: What a fantastic find. Rarer then the RCA Model 5. And with a Sylvania prototype picture tube to boot. Any futher info on previous owners or how and where you located it? Please keep us posted on your progress with this set. |
Steve,
What I found out today was that it came from the estate of a Philco engineer years ago. The engineers son was cleaning out the house and was going to trash it, he had already trashed a file cabinet that contained all the paperwork on the set . The guy I got it from made a quick trip to the house when he heard about it. Chuck |
Thanks Chuck,
It's nice to see this bit of TV history rescued. Sorry about the paper work, I know it would have been helpful and historically important. Once again, congratulations. |
Just thought I'd give a follow up on the CRT. It is a Sylvania tube. The tag on the neck says it's a type ST-1507, engineering sample tube, dated 12/1/53.
The good news is that I have silver flashing at the getters! So there is hope it may be a good tube. Chuck |
amazing!
Chuck,
Congratulations. That set is just such a totally awesome find! Please keep us posted on your progress with it. Rob |

Curtis Mathes Color

Hi Guys
Got home Wednesday from being at sea for the past 2 months. I'm very glad to again be surrounded by the warmth of the vacuum tube... especially considering how cold the temperatures have been getting lately! Yesterday, I drove to the Dallas/Fort Worth area to pick up a 60's Curtis Mathes set that I got on ebay a while back. This was the same set that Eric H. started a thread on when the auction started. The owner said it would come on, but wouldn't tune in any stations, and showed me once I got to his house yesterday. This morning, I pulled the back off and found a lifetime supply of dust inside. I spent about 30 minutes with a small brush and the vacuum cleaner on it, and then the set started to wake up. The picture is a little dark, and looks like the convergence is off a bit. The tuner feels solid, but will need some cleaner spray. In a few days, I'll take out the chassis to give it and the controls a good cleaning, and check caps and tubes that might need replacing. Hopefully that will be all it will need to improve the picture. The stereo in it sounds good, but will need a cleaning also... controls sound scratchy. So far, I found two dates inside it. The power transformer has a date of June 3, 1966, and the RCA picture tube has a date code of 66-35. I assume that means the 35th week of 1966. If i am incorrect, let me know if that means something else. Charlie |
