I always thought water would work also to remove stuff..... As long as you let it dry completly before applying power!!

Water can often be the very best solvent in certain situations.

I remember calling my brother (research chemist) and asked him about some battery leakage deposits I could not remove, and I tried all sorts of stuff I had around the shop, including stuff that would melt plastic.

He asked if I tried water. I didn't figure water would budge it if the aggressive stuff I used couldn't, but I put warm water on a q-tip and the stuff just dissolved away.
