Somewhere I have a clipping from the old newspaper we used to have in my hometown of Preston, MD. In the "50 years ago today column" they stated that the little radio shop in town had a Philco projection set on display. I thought it was from 1946. I've never seen one of these vintage projection sets outside of a museum, believe it or not. This & a "mirror-in-lid" are 2 models I'd like to have someday, assuming I could make room for them.

Come up to PA and you can haul away a working one for a very small investment. Cabinet needs some TLC but it is complete.

Thenks for the help, guys. The set pictured is, indeed the same as the one I have. That's right about the silvering on the mirror. Dad had the mirror re-silvered at least once, and I think more than that.

The value you folks mentioned is what I expected, but with old things you never know what might have a real inflated price if you don't know the market. Thanks again for the help with that. I have a neighbor who has offered $200. It will be his tomorrow. He'll also get the spare picture tubes and a box full of vacuum tubes--at least one complete working set for that TV, and tube tester.

Dad always told me that set cost him $2000 in 1948. I can't imagine him spending that much money at that time. In fact, $2000 1948 dollars was an awful lot of money. The way he came to get it, there was a bar he passed on foot on the way home from work all the time (no, I really do mean "passed"). They bought one of these and set one up inside, with a different lens system so that it projected on a small movie screen. It was set up near a window, to attract the attention of passers-by. The first night they did that, they had it set up and tuned to a prie fight. I really did capture his attention, and he eventually bought one.
