Well red green and blue all well into the bad range.

Give 'er a whack with a tester, what tester do you have? I've had amazing results with a Sencore CR-70.

freakaftr8 06-29-2012 07:48 PM

Semcore cr-161.
And. Yep I did. I let the CRT cook overnight so I figured what to I got to lose.
And the results were.
Red. 1/4 in the good
Green just barely good
Blue half in the ?
So I plugged it back in did a quick convergence and purity alignment with moderately impressive results. Then....
It started to look hazy and dim in the blue. Then a little darker.

So I tested the guns again and all but red were in the bad again.
Red was in the ?

So I started running it with the juice bumper again and it looks a whole lot better. Sadly I think this CRT has seen brighter days.

Sounds like the tube is gassy, the cathodes are becoming contaminated. Time for a replacement.

Just go down to local electronics store and order one. LOL Someone here should have one.

freakaftr8 07-01-2012 09:45 PM

I wish. Looking for one. Anyone??

freakaftr8 07-02-2012 09:28 AM

Yesterday morning my 3 year old and I watched the jungle book on the 11. About near the end of the movie the CRT got dimmer and dimmer and blurry.

So.. I gave this tube one last bump before I gave up and looking for a replacement. I left the tube cooking for at least 6 hours at 8.5v so it got nice and hot. Dialed it back to 6.3. Checked emission. All 3 barely registered. So.... I wacked all three guns at rejuv 3 function. What a spark, very audible!

Results were impressive. That's what's wrong. I had a smear issue I was trying to chase down in the IF section. It was the CRT that was causing all the issues. Well nice and bright now! Lol doubt it will last a day like this. Actually the chassis outputs an excellent image. Oh and the filters measure good. But I'm monitoring them.

Anyone else had results after rejuvenation that lasted?

DavGoodlin 07-02-2012 03:26 PM

Yes, Zenith 25VBQP22 (1973 25DC57) looked good for another 12 years after a serious blast. I think the key may be that you need to use it regularly once you do it.

miniman82 07-02-2012 08:02 PM

If it's a cathode contamination issue (gas), you'll have to whack it now and again because the gas will just redeposit and poison the cathodes when the tube is not in use. Best thing is just to replace it.

Sounds like why my wife does to me when I make her mad. Lol. I'll keep an eye on the CRT emission level this week and see what happens. Meantime I'm going to test tubes and check some circuits in the vertical section. The linarity is off and seems that I went through this with my ctc-16

With black-and-white CRTs in commercial use, I have had some rejuvenated tubes last for years and others die within weeks, so no consistent results here. All of these were in use 24 hours per day before and after rejuvenation.

I usually use a clean and balance setting on my Sencore Big Mack. Full restore as a last resort. I checked both of my sets. One having a CYP and the other an FBP. CYP is great and I left it alone. FBP has a cateract that I want gone and emission was just a tad low. Cleaned and balanced it end of April. Checked it end of June and it's great but I use it regularly. I am going to look for an extra CRT just to have one. I love these old sets and thank got for ME TV. Really takes me back.
