Is 5 bucks each a good deal?

I fell in love with Tank Police in the 90s, it was always playing on Sci-fi channel.

Yup sci-fi channel those were the days. For $5, I would've bought too. Anime is worth it. I remember project a-ko, and many others during that time. Because of that, I have most of them on vhs

Today, picked up copies of Sudden Death (the Jean-Claude Van Damme movie) and RoboCop 2 for 50 cents each at a yard sale.

I bought a few blank D-VHS tapes on Ebay a few days ago. Digital VHS is a fascinating format, it records and plays digital HDTV for perfect reproduction via an IEEE-1394 (or I-link, or Firewire) connection.

It is a fascinating format. The D-THEATER machines have component HD output too.
I haven't encountered anything ignoring D-THEATER decks and computers that can convert firewire to anything the average HDTV can play. I've heard a few FireWire TVs were made, but I've never seen one in person.

The typical way to use these was with the Panasonic or Samsung tuners with the
IEEE1394 connectors, and maybe another model or two. I may chase those down later, or try a computer as you mentioned.

IIRC there were play back issues using my JVC to play back through the Panasonic ATSC tuner via FireWire. I've heard the interface was slightly different between brands. If possible a tuner the same brand as the deck is advisable.

I've got 3 of the Project A-ko Videos on VHS that I picked up at Goodwill at one point in time, I unfortunately made the mistake of using one of those tapes as a test tape for working on an old VCR that I thought I had fixed and wound up ruining part of the tape when the VCR in question ate the tape. :sigh: :tears:

I found an unwrapped copy of "The Shootist", so you can bet I'll be watching it this weekend. Who doesn't love John Wayne?

vortalexfan 03-17-2023 12:13 AM

I picked up a few years ago an older copy of Bruce Lee's Enter the Dragon and just got around to finally watching it for the first time earlier this week on my freshly restored 1981 Panasonic PV-1750 Top-Loader 4-head VCR, along with the VCR's original wired remote, and it was really good!:thmbsp:
