My Early American Astro has a good sound, unfortunately it needs a cartridge and the tape input/output needs work. I can play CDs through it with a transmitter in the meantime. I have a French Provincial in the same spot right now, with the last model of the sharp pot metal arms and charcoal grey paint. The player on that was fantastic, just three months into ownership, it needs cleaning and lubing. First real Micromatic failure I've ever had:tears:.

Let me admit before I begin....I don't have any actual consoles.
What I do have, however, are pulled amps from Motorola consoles. A pair of hs-619 amps to be exact. Bought them from an AK member. Completely rebuilt and refurbished. They're my first tube amps and....wow. I used to think consoles had crappy sound systems in them, the Moto amps have REALLY changed my opinion of them. Excellent, solid amp design. A real joy to listen to. I can't embed the pictures as I don't remember the filenames, however, they're in a folder on my www... http://dewdu.de/moto-amps |
Wow, Relaximus, what beautiful (and many!) consoles. Looks like a showroom, and they're all in top notch looking shape. Thanks for the pix.

Thank you for the kind word Reece. I've been quite fortunate to have obtained some true survivors. Most of these have come from the home of their original owner. All but the '63 Motorola have been recapped and get regular use. As much as I enjoy listening to my various stereo systems, there is something I find very comforting in the sound of an old console. It tends to transport me back to my childhood.

Hey Dave; What Changer is on the 56 Futura. The Cabinet looks a lot like my 51 Coronet.

My research says that it's a Webcor Magic Mind TT equipped with a GE VRII cartridge. I still need to find the little red knob for the stylus selector. Dave |
