1) The Island - 1980
2) Friday the 13th Part 3 - 1982

Dude111 06-20-2015 01:09 PM

Yesterday I got these :)

1) Fail safe - 1964
2) Mountain family robinson - 1979

stromberg67 06-21-2015 03:56 PM

Don't remember the last tape I purchased, but right now dubbing "Days Of Wine And Roses", the 1958 TV production with Cliff Robertson and Piper Laurie. The recording was originally made as a kinescope on film, and the artifacts are certainly visible. It adds to the 'charm". Almost as good as a video tape original.

I dont know if buying blank VHS tapes for time shifting and recording shows for keepers is legit for this topic but I picked up a batch from Walmart last week which I get them say about two times a month there.

Around the beginning of the year .I got some self recorded tapes from my neighbor with movies and some TV shows on them.

Dude111 06-26-2015 12:27 AM

Yup it surely is my friend!!!

Congrats on your blank tape purchase :) (I reckon you will put something on them s00n)

Thats why i picked it up. I had this version awhile back but the box was missing the insert that keeps the tape from going all the way in because the box is bigger than the tape. I already have the THX version and the CED version.

I pick up brand new VHS tapes at the thrifts. They have to still be wrapped in the cellophane. Anywhere from 25 to 50 cents each.
All my buddies like the movie "Goodfellows" so I pick them up and hand them out.

Dave A 07-25-2015 04:50 PM

All six Star Trek movies today at a flea market. #1 is a "longer version" by 12 minutes. 1-4 unopened. Never knew the spine art was continuous. Not sure of the age of this set. $5 for all. Viewing party tonight.

And 10 wrapped Sony T120's at SA for .99 each.

I just got another 15 Dr. Who VHS tapes. I've been trying to collect all the Dr. Who that was put on VHS. I have probably about 1/3 of it now. I had recorded most of Dr. Who off TV in the late 1980s, but didn't keep the tapes and now regret it, so I thought I would try and pick up a nice set of the pre-recorded ones.

What I don't like about tape is having to put up with the picture bending at the top of the screen. But then many DVDs have those awful retrace lines, so they both have their problems.

I did find the first release of SHORT CIRCUIT 2 however...... (They didnt me$$ that up thankfully (Its not as good as part 1 though :())

pac.attack76 09-05-2015 09:58 AM

Just got:

I used to have a bunch of Dr. Who a couple years ago that someone had recorded. You could tell they were very old. Wish i had kept them now. They seemed in the way at the time and i tossed them with a bunch of other junk.

What exactly did they "ruin"?
I guess I've never noticed the problem. Although I don't watch very many pre-recorded movie tapes these days.

Dude111 09-05-2015 11:22 PM

Well Ed its not the original analog movie on the tape,ITS BEEN 'DIGITALLY' RE-RECORDED -- Doesnt look/sound that good...

I have come to the conclusion long ago I cant get EVERY MOVIE I want in its original analog format and to be quite frank I AM QUITE GRATEFUL WITH WHAT I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO FIND!! (With how messed up the world started becoming in the 80s)

I got rid of it..... I had 2 copies of it and both were the same :(

I wonder if this move was released on VIDEODISC,that copy might be the original movie....

I do have some later 90s movies that obviously arent in analog but not many as I dont like how they look...... (The newest movie I have is SAW (2004) which was done incredibly well (For the time It was made))

pac.attack76 09-06-2015 07:47 AM

I dont think it was on CED but here's something even worse. It was released on Blu-ray.

Sr.Radtastic 09-06-2015 11:34 PM

Last VCR I bought was for 5$ at my local Goodwill in August of 2013. What can I say? I'm not just giving all of my childhood tapes away. The last tapes I got were at a yard sale for a buck each last summer: Indiana Jones Last of the Crusades and Running Man. Indiana Jones was a delight as always to watch while I haven't tried out Running Man yet.

The only Hitchcock film I've (bothered/happened to) seen all the way through.....

centralradio 09-14-2015 01:38 PM

I'm still time shifting with my VCRs as long as the VHS tape supply lasts.

I dont trust my DVD recorders since they sometimes make coasters instead of recording my shows.

Walmart still stocks them here in town.

pac.attack76 09-14-2015 01:51 PM

Blank VHS isn't as plentiful as it used to be but they're still around. The DVD format has proved to be junk. The machines are about as reliable as today's vehicles. Work today, gone tomorrow. I have a pioneer that plays what it wants to. Probably needs lens cleaned. Now my Magnavox is starting to act up. Most people dont take care of the discs so buying used is barely even an option. They need to quit making all this junk. VCRs worked just fine. What was so wrong with them?

Bingo.I agree 110 percent.

Blame it on the media on TV , print and online and the idiots that say that DVD will last forever years ago.

centralradio 09-19-2015 07:18 PM

Not a purchase but I just curb pickup a full box of pre recorded and home recorded VHS tapes with movie probably recorded from HBO or Showtime .

I got to take inventory to see what I got.So far I see Star Wars ,The Titanic movie and Disney movies which those are collectable.

Dude111 09-19-2015 11:55 PM

WOW IM LOOKING FOR SOME STUFF ON VHS recorded from analogue cable If you dont want them.. Here is what im looking for

1) The Goonies - 1985
2) Back to the future II and maybe III (I have the first one recorded off HBO - 4/1/87 (Its recorded in LP mode (Instead of SP) but its still excellent))
3) Poltergeist - 1982
4) Star Wars 2: Empire Strikes Back - 1980 (I have the first (SP) and third (LP) in analogue thankfully :))

If you find any of that please let me know buddy!! (Cannot find these on thier official VHS tapes (In 100% analog))

Congrats on your find - Thank you!!

pac.attack76 09-20-2015 06:38 AM

Just picked up:

Batman & Robin
End of Days
Collateral Damage
Beverly Hills Cop II

Hey Dude111, Does your Back to the Future and Star Wars recordings have the commercials as well? Could you make me copies of those?

Dude111 09-20-2015 01:14 PM

No thankfully both were recorded FROM HB0!! (Well Back to the future I know was .. Star wars 3 I dont know what pay channel it came from, most likely HBO)

About copies: The audio always drops on them, havent seen one that the audio is the same level.... I guess I could try PAC.. I have a GO-VIDEO unit I could try to make copies on....

Star Wars 3 would have to be in LP mode as its too long for most tapes.. (I suppose if I had a T-160 it might all fit in SP mode (Star wars 3 is 130Mins))

Ya sure you want them???? -- Most ppl are not like me,these are straight analogue recordings off analog cable in the 80s...... (To me they are gold but not to many others)

Would be interesting. I tend to favor the older "Natural" look and sound of tv from 70's-80's. Also looking for vintage commercials.

Dude111 09-29-2015 12:18 AM

I hear ya buddy!!!

Yes analog is beautiful!!!!!!! :)

Im glad you also realise this!!! (And are not afraid to admit it (Most ppl today are re-programmed robots and cannot think for themselves, etc))
