She's a runner!!!
Well I recieved all the replacement parts Friday for the ctc-16, got finished with it today, inspected my work, and re installed the chassis, powered up the set and voilla! What a picture!!! I went ahead and swapped out all three 27k 2W R-y B-y g-y grid resistors and x and z demod plate resistors, all were out of tolerance or open. Swapped out all wax caps, and replaced a few orange drops. This set looks better than my Chromacolor II!!! Oh yeah, the 21FJP22 reads great and within 15% between red green and blue! Found a few out of tolerance resistors for the 2nd video IF as well which explaind the video smearing. Vertical was wonky due to a faulty 150k resistor between the vert height and lin pots and the cardboard axial lytic cap on the vertical sweep board. Not enough blue screen caused by a faulty 100k 1W resistor for the blue screen pot. found the same for red screen as well... The raster on this set is exceptionally bright and very well focused, I spent a few hours tweakin the screens and bias to get a great greyscale, then used my B&K on crosshatch and finnesed the convergence to near perfect. I really appreciate all you guys help as I battled this monster! It's deffenatly rewarding! Shoot, it's got such an awesome picture that im using it at the moment to play my XBOX!

Glad you got that set going again! You've certainly got a winner there that I know you'll always be proud of! Can't wait to see the pictures!
|
I'm glad too that you managed to get it working. I had been wondering whether or not you would.
Here's to hoping it runs another 50 years! |

That first pic kinda looks like that scene from nightmare on elm street when that dude got sucked into the roundie in that abondened house huh! lol

The color sure pops,, nice goin.

I always thought the 16 was one of the best pictures around. Especially the later runs with a good 21fjp22a rare earth crt. Great job.

Thats awesome! I believe an easy fix isnt as gradifying as one you got to chase down and dig in to fix. You tend to appreciate the set more afterwards, learn a little bit and have a sense of accomplishment when your done. In your case the aggravation was well worth it as you now have a great playing set. Good job and enjoy!

man that is schweet!!! :thmbsp:
Got to get mine finished  |
Excellent job :thmbsp:What a nice looking set.

Thanks guys, you know im suprised to find such rich contrast in this crt, it's only a 21fjp22 not an "a" rare earth crt as far as I can tell. And judging by the cataract that built up on it before removal, I think its original, the crt has no paper tags glued to it, the only thing it has is a white label 1/2"high 1.5"long that says 21FJP22 . Looks really good when I play HALO on it from the XBOX... lol.
My B&K 465 got damaged in shipping, the needle got bugered up from the faceplate coming off and bouncing around the box, it's finicky when adjusting g2 out of cut off. and at the 5-8 heater range, cranked the heater voltage up, it wont reach 6.3. Think ill file a claim and get another tester. I need it for my B&W Maggie combo anyway. |
Good deal. I was actually thinking the first pic looked like something from one of the old Doctor Who intros.

Nice work!!! That's an inspiration for me to find some time to go through my Zenith roundie... As soon as I catch up on a few things, and as soon as we survive 2 more months of "The Holiday season," (formerly known as Christmas and Hanukkah when those weren't taboo words)

Yeah, I hear that, I read up on the testing equipment threads. Dont think mine was insured, and im not to hip on the rejuv function on the 465, did a Maggie color console from 68 a few years back and it turned out bad, hence having to purchase a new tube.. I'll look for the newer B&K's, thanks for that info!

Here's something that makes since for a good screenshot..

Very, Very Nice ! I'd love to see some Halo screen shots. It would make a excellent avatar pic on a gamer site!

judy garland never looked so good! that is a great looking roundie. i am happy you got it going. looks great! another one saved!
|
Nice! I just thought that the combo of old and new, would make a cool effect, and it does!

That's a beautiful set, congratulations. I really love the cabinet style. Nothing quite beats a roundie for color quality. I have a '65 Zenith (the one in my avatar) and the reds are so deep and rich. Mine also has the regular 21FJP22 (recently rebuilt) and the contrast is quite surprising. I've found the secret is using lower brightness settings. If the set is adjusted right the picture is amazing as you know from your own set. I hope that RCA keeps going for another five decades. Let's all keep those roundies glowing.
|
Oh I deffinatly agree with you, the reds and blues on these roundie sets are rich and ruby like. This is my first roundie and it takes my breath away to see amazing rich colors like this! My CRT is as far as I can tell an original 21FJP22 as well..

I remember the Fairchild... That controller was a pain to use. The tough thing was twisting it without pushing the stick left or right at the same time, in the baseball game.
