Interesting set. What would this set have cost in Russia in 1973?

colortubeman 03-30-2011 08:31 PM

It was the color tv for the Russian people (the same for all)

colortubeman 03-30-2011 08:34 PM

I've always liked the "odd" look of sets where the picture tube is mounted through the front of the cabinet. Near programming for the demo :D

Thanks for posting - this is great.

colortubeman 03-30-2011 10:06 PM

I think in Italy is the only one of that model.
I'm very happy to own it.
Thanks everyone for the compliments

That tv is epic! Tubes everywhere, layered sticking in all directions. You can defiantly tell its a tv from another world. Too cool

Wow, and they used to tell us in the USA that TV sets in communist Russia only came with red phospers. Not RGB, just R. :D

"Better dead than red!" :D

Take a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McCarthyism to see where this silliness came from... Though various coworkers from Russia and China have said that communism did suck.

Enough of the political history sidebar.

jpdylon 03-31-2011 12:08 AM

excellent! Thanks for sharing that set. Nice to see more euro sets - especially in operation with programming to match!

Fortunately, the phosphors are rgb and not only red. hahahaahah

That is very cool. Thanks for giving us a chance to see it!

Or as Yakoff Smirnoff would say, "in Soviet Russia, TV watches you!"

Sandy G 03-31-2011 10:55 PM

How well was it made in comparison to a Western color set ? Was it an obvious "clone" of a European set, or an original Russian design ? I've often heard Soviet consumer stuff for "Ivan Average" was usually junk, but the stuff for the "Big Dogs" was pretty decently made.

colortubeman 04-01-2011 04:10 AM

And no, the Russians not copied anything, design their circuits and made them too well with oversized valves and components made to last. (In fact it works very well (I've replaced some capacitors on horizontal deflection) even after it has been 30 years in a cellar).
For their communist ideas of the then Russian families had to have a color television to be equal to the Americans and therefore it was not just for the rich was a single model for all.
