zenith flyback ID

well i have another flyback but again dont know what it is from, round screen or otherwise maybe someone out there knows? the number is s-90526 and comes with the anode wire and rectifier tube socket.

Let's see, that crosses to a Thordarson FLY-408. Looks like chassis 12A13C52, 25BT22, 25CC50. A little tricky to look it up in reverse like that for the chassis numbers (and there were some production changes along the way) but maybe that will get you started.

timmy 07-28-2011 05:56 AM

would you know if this fly came from a round screen tv or if it could be modified in some way to use in a ctc15 chassis?

ctc17 07-28-2011 03:40 PM

NO. thats for a early 70s Zenith 25xxx22 true 25 inch hybird set. Zenith and RCA designed there parts to be almost compete opposites.

We have successfully subbed flys between rca style chassis and clones. I would call it real advanced delicate work.

Best to keep your eye out for a FLY277 and have a big open wallet when one shows up.

timmy 07-28-2011 05:03 PM

ok ill watch, and mine has a fly 273 and its a ctc15 as well so would the 277 be for a ctc 15 or another one.

ctc17 07-28-2011 05:53 PM

FLY273 is for CTC12

Maybe if you get some Ortho fly paper from Home Depot and wrap you current flyback it will clear the shorts out.

timmy 07-28-2011 06:03 PM

well the fly thats in mine is marked fly273 and its a ctc15 and the set works, but what could be different between the 12 and 15?

ctc17 07-28-2011 06:49 PM

why do you think its a 15?

If it uses a 6DQ5 its a 12.

timmy 07-28-2011 07:08 PM

its marked on the chassis and the number matches the sams.

timmy 07-28-2011 07:14 PM

oh wellit does use the 6dq5 but the numbers match for a 15,lol,now im confused.

timmy 07-28-2011 07:59 PM

looks like your right the 15 uses 6je6 and the base is different then the 6dqb, the pins wow it is a 12, unless i am reading the sams wrong, 528.61115 is on the chassis and others on the sams with 611110,11,14,15,40,41,44,45, and 528.61280 i thought the 15 in the chassis number said it was a ctc15, maybe not so then where does it say ctc12 because it is not stamped in the chassis.

ctc17 07-28-2011 08:18 PM

Is this a Sears Silvertone?

bgadow 07-28-2011 10:36 PM

This Sears set was not made by RCA, it was made by Warwick. In some cases companies bought complete chassis from RCA but my guess is this was built in the Warwick factory to RCA specs, maybe with some differences? I doubt it says anywhere on it the RCA chassis that it is designed after, unless RCA built it. The '15' in your model number is likely just a production change number.

ctc17 07-28-2011 10:51 PM

LOLOLOLOL That why he thought it was a ctc15!?!?!?:lmao:

I have a 528.525 and it is a RCA sourced chassis for sure. The EIA numbers give it away. Everyone here though it was a CTC11

Well that would explain allot.
Your sams should be 655-2, what sams do you have?

timmy 07-29-2011 05:39 AM

that is what i have number 655-2 and it also has the model number of the set i have. and yes sears silvertone.how do you tell by the numbers that its a ctc12 or anything else, because the 11 uses the 6dq5 also.

ctc17 07-29-2011 09:55 AM

Its not an RCA CTC anything. Its a Sears and depending on who the chassis was sourced from thats what it is.
FLY 273 is for CTC12 so we can assume it may be kinda like a CTC12 but its not to be called or referred to as a CTC. Its a Silvertone!

timmy 07-29-2011 10:35 AM

would you know if a ctc16 fly would work in place of the fly273? or i could refer to the sams with the ohms readings and compare the 2.

ctc17 07-29-2011 10:59 AM

Not without ALLOT of complicated modification.

The flyback is not the problem. Flybacks either short and dont produce any high voltage and melt the tube OR they internally arc and smoke.
Look somewhere else

timmy 07-29-2011 11:09 AM

because the 16 fly looks just like the fly 273 with only little changes like the focus and horiz centering pot other then that the bracket is the same, but i know it would have to be electricly the same.

ctc17 07-29-2011 11:17 AM

ctc16 fly is WAY different. It doesnt have any pots and the rect plugs directly into the flyback.

why dont you call moyers and buy a 273?

ohh, but looks somewhere else. the fly isnt the problem.

good thing im on the clock, one of my job requirements is repeating things to people who dont listen

timmy 07-29-2011 11:50 AM

moyers has been out of that fly for awhile now. if i need a flyback then the fly is infact the problem since they are not around and i just wanted to find even a used one that may work as a spare with some mods that may be needed.
