Where's the like button when you need it?
Seriously, the work done bringing that chassis back to life is the most awesome early color accomplishment since CBS Color pictures were seen again in 2004. |
Nick,
That is awesome, I was just reading the updates on the ETF website. Steve has been doing some amazing work! |
CPA, ETF?
For those of us who don't know what you're talking about, how about a link or something? The idea is that you want to spread the word to others in Internetland instead of the 5 people who know what you're talking about. I assume it's the old CBS color wheel? Help a guy out. Thanks. |
Steve, you need to start here:
http://videokarma.org/showthread.php...ight=prototype This is a Prototype chassis and tube purchased from Harry Poster. The short of it is this was an RCA Prototype made in the early 50's, one of the Ancestors of every Color TV that followed for the next 50 years. The ETF is The Early Television Foundation, run by Steve McVoy, their mission is to preserve stuff like this. http://www.earlytelevision.org/index.html The page for this set: http://www.earlytelevision.org/rca_cpa_restoration.html |
speaking for the folks out there in Internetville, much appreciated!
|
ok guys....
Just want to give a huge HOORAY and CONGRATULATIONS to you guys for getting the CPA set up and running .... just plain amazing.
I do wonder what would CPA look like on a modern set? |
Kewl !

Been following the CPA restoration, big congratulations for getting the CPA colour system working, great to see a long lost colour system from the distant past brought back to life!!!:D
|
Amazing, just amazing
|
Can I have It!!!!?????
|
Thanks to both of you for your persistence and dedication to this project. It looks as if the long dormant developmental chassis is back to life with a decent color picture. Amazing.
|
As of late Feb 2013 there are more posts at the website
http://www.earlytelevision.org/rca_cpa_restoration.html including about correction of vestigial sideband color fringes. |
I love this movie,I have it on VHS :)
|
I was following the other thread, too. I'm so impressed with this.
|
This is truly an amazing accomplishment to take a prototype set with massively changed and incomplete wiring, reverse engineer what could have been implemented with the parts existing in the set, and actually get it to work as it was back in the day. It certainly is a missing link in the chain of color tv development. Very fine work!
