Zenith press kit 1972

Press kit for Zenith "25th Anniversary of TV"

Also contained some small publicity shots of stars sketched on cover, which I did not scan.

Of interest here:
Photo of B&W roundie production line
Photo of display of Zenith's version of first NTSC color receiver.
Zenith time line and profile.

This?

On the cover I see Dinah Shore, Lucille Ball, James Arness, Jack Webb, Bob Hope, Sid Caesar, Jack Palance?, John Wayne, Johnny Mathis?,?, Robert Young, Florence Henderson and Milton Berle.

Thank you for posting this, it's really cool!

I wonder if that see-through demonstrator model survived somewhere?

David Roper 01-12-2013 07:51 PM

I didn't recognize the guy between Sid Caesar and Duke. I'm not convinced it's Jack Palance, but I also didn't recognize Florence Henderson, who I do think is the correct ID. I think the first two at bottom are Nat King Cole and George C. Scott.

Between Caesar and Wayne is Perry Como.

I think you're right about G.C. Scott, I still think it's Mathis though, he did (and still does) a lot of TV but Nat King Cole died in 65.

old_tv_nut 01-12-2013 08:12 PM

The pictures inside do [EDIT: DO NOT] match one-for-one with the cover illustration. Neither Cole nor Mathis are pictured inside, and neither one appears on the list of cast shown here:

You don't think Zenith stretched the truth in any of what they said, do you?

Looks like 15GP22
Rauland division prob made 15GP22 under license using RCA components like GE did?
Then quit after very small production? At very big expense, for very little return:headscrat

Thank you for posting that! It is very cool.

Interesting reading. My first thought about the cover picture; What is Carl Sagan doing there next to Lucy?

No more than what is typical in advertising, I would guess.

They used to make a big deal about "hand crafted", aka "point to point chassis wiring". With the crappy circuit boards the industry had at the time, Zenith may have had a point there.

My best friend had the Avanti I when we were in school together. I remember that set well. Dunno if his was 23 or 25 inch though.
