Faceplate Bonding Adhesive ??
Does anyone know for a fact, exactly what the bonding material is that is used to bond the faceplate to a roundie color crt?
We use an interesting structral adhesive to bond cast pewter name plates to glassware. It is the consistancy of honey and totally clear. It changes from liquid to solid in 10 seconds when exposed to intense Ultra Violet light. I have always wondered if this is the stuff that was used to bond the safety glass to the crt. It would be a simple mater to use this UV cure adhesive to do the job. All you would have to do is pour the proper amount into the safety glass like a dish, and then place the crt into the dish which would distribute the adhesive and force any excess out to the outer edge. Then hit it with a 1000W mercury vapor light for 10 or 15 seconds and VIOLA you have rebonded the two peices. The same adhesive is used to glue the prescription lenses into my scuba mask. The uv adhesive is expensive. Cost is about $100 per ltr. |
It is called PVA. Here is a link to the information you need.
