Unknown motorola model
 

Hey everybody,

New guy here. I am trying to identify the approx year and possibly a model # for this Motorola set that I just got from an attic. It doesn't work but hopefully that will change soon if I get the time. I have attached a front and back shot. Any ideas?

The chassis # on the back of your set is TS14B, which is in Sams Photofact folder 92-4, published in 1950 (probably a 1949 model year set). Someone on the forum can probably help with a copy or scan of the Sams data.

Brightener Alert!
Looks like there's a brightener attached to your CRT. It's probably weak.

Very possible, but on the other hand, at least 50% of the sets I've encountered with a brightener were in fact just fine. I think that a lot of technicians would sell brighteners because they were easy to sell, and they made an extra few dollars on each call.

Thanks for the info. If I decide that trying to fix it might be beyond my limitations what might something like this be worth? Is it worth more as parts or whole? Also, what might I be looking at as far as parts availability or a guide to fixing it other than this forum? If there are a lot of thing to fix/replace what is the price tag on a typical do it yourself or send it in to get it fixed?

This one is like my first roundie. I still have mine. There's really no good reason to part it out, the sum of the parts is not equal to that of the whole.
You have an okay cabinet and all the front-panel knobs, and like Charles said, the jug may be good. This chassis runs quite well after replacing just the wax-dipped paper capacitors and the electrolytic capacitors. It could be electrically refurbished by you for $50-$75 if certain parts are still good. There's enough love of these and centuries of combined experience on this site to guide you through the restoration. Just don't plug it in (again), and be advised the chassis on these is somewhat connected to one side of the power line with an unpolarized cord. That's why the knobs are plastic! There are ways to mitigate this issue.
Don't expect more than $100 for this unless a nostalgia attack occurs.

Looks to be a model 12T10, 1950 vintage!

back in the service days(1962-1970) we would get a bonus if we sold a booster-2.00 on b/w and 3.00 on color sets. if the tube was marginal,sell em a booster! i think we went to extremes in those days.lots of good tubes were accessorized! kx250rider was correct. good luck!(your tube may be good!)
