Chicagoland CTC-5 Wingate--act fast

For those of you in the Chicago area: I stopped at an estate sale today in Wilmette--massive 1920s mansion. Upstairs is a CTC-5 Wingate; looked to be in very nice shape, visually at least--no signs of abuse, water, etc; cabinet in good shape. Price was $45.00 today. I would have bought it if I had a place to put it (and truth be told, I'm not a big fan of the Colonial consoles...) No financial interest--just hope it could find a good home. Sale is going on tomorrow as well; information from the online ad is below.

Very interesting. How did you find the ad to this sale? I didn't see it in any of my sources.

All the years have gone by of me getting everything in chicagoland. I have some competition now for the first time!

zenithfan1 09-20-2008 08:07 PM

Not trying to compete. I do however want this set, and since you already have a very nice restored Westcott I'd like a shot at this Wingate. Hopefully it will be there still.

drh4683 09-20-2008 09:24 PM

by all means its yours.

It was in the Pioneer Press online classifieds. Amazingly, I didn't buy a thing but I had a great time checking out the house.

OK, makes sense. Ive never heard of pioneer press. Oh well. I could have come home with a CTC-5 yesterday but thats fine. Hopefully mark can save it. I will admit, if it was a color zenith space command of some kind then Id be up there to grab it in a second!

In the above scenario, I think I would justify a visit to the sights and sounds of the windy city!

hey mark,

dont know if you are working today or not, but if you get this message and dont know if you can make it to the sale, I can pick up the set and hold it for you. I don't want to go grab it and then to your surprize you'd drive all the way down just to see its gone.

jmdocs 09-21-2008 11:33 AM

Pioneer Press: http://www.pioneerlocal.com/index.html It's the chain of suburban Chicago newspapers--Evanston Review, Skokie Gazette, Wilmette Life, etc., etc.

WOW! thanks Doug, I really appreciate the offer. That was very nice of you, something may work out like that in the future, I would also do the same for you if there is a set around here that you want. But, I got out of bed today at 6 and was at the house waiting at 7:45! Needless to say I was the first person in the door and upstairs I ran! I picked it up and it is BEAUTIFUL!!! I'll post pics and tell the whole story in a little while, I'm movin' stuff around and getting the house straightened up. I put 8 portable sets {not collectible ones} that I repaired out for free yesterday and they only lasted an hour! Tryin' to make space! Personally, I think a CTC5 Wingate is worth much more and is more collectible than any Space Command set, although I do love the SC's, don't get me wrong, we'd a been feudin' over a Zenith!

Excellent--glad it has a good home. I'm absolutely certain that if no one had bought it, it would have been dumpstered.

you go mark!! i am happy for your success.post pics asap.
