Any Nixie tubes fans around here?
I dream to built an Nixie tubes clock with elctronic tubes taking place of all the chips that you found in a normal electronic clock (I saw a picture of that kind of clock) - any one got some schematics?

It sounds like you want to build a Nixie Tube clock that doesn't use solid state drivers or counters. There are several ways to do it, but perhaps the easiest would be to use a glow transfer counter tube known as the dekatron. They are available on ebay. You could build counters with triodes but that would consume a lot of tubes.

I didn't find any Nixie+dekatron schematics with a google search, but there seem to have been a number of individuals who have built them.

I also like Nixie tubes as well, they are neat. My fantasy is to build an automobile digital dashboard using Nixie tubes.

Always wanted one of those SAE tuners with the nixies for the display -- very cool. Way too much $$$ for me, though.

have some nixie tubes in my stash and *one* dekatron tube. took me a while to figure out it was a dekatron as i had never seen one in person before.

I think the nixie clocks are pretty cool. Never heard of the term dekatron before.

I have an adding machine (Casio 121-L) that uses individual blue-green VFD tubes - not exactly a nixie, but a close kissing cousin to it. I had to open it up once and was surprised to see twelve little tubes lined up in there!

ONE day - when time is plentiful - I want to make a standalone CD player from a PC-CDR drive, which *will* have a nixie time/track display... the nixies are waiting in a box in my storeroom!

Among much other stuff, I've been saving nixie stuff for 30 years-Calculators, Test Equipment, Counters, Oscillators and the tubes themselves.

Check this clock out. The page is in German, but you get the idea. The quality of construction is excellent to say the least. Not a transistor to be found, though there are solid state diodes used. No "Energy Star" sticker here, lol.

I just bought a nixie tube clock kit off the Bay. It was $72.00 and some change. I think it uses 4 IN16's, could be wrong. Would have to go back to the link. Just do a search for tube clock kit. I will keep you posted. The seller emailed the instuctions to me. I was going to buy a cheap clock from the store but found this instead. The seller was Fenwick 161 in the UK. Shipping was $6.95.
