RCA model GG589M?
Does that ring a bell with anyone?
Someone wrote me who has an RCA that he's pretty sure pre dates 1963, I've asked for pictures and a CTC number but if anyone know what set this is can you let me know? |
Eric:
A search on samswebsite.com shows it is covered in set 818 folder 2. Referencing the paper sams index it is chassis CTC-16XL. |
Sams 818 was published in 1966.

I picked up the GG589M on Saturday, July 25 and brought it home safely, from a couple of very nice people. It is in pretty nice condition, just a few scratches on the cabinet as could be expected, and the CRT has "cataracts". This will be my first lens repair job, but first I will test the CRT. That will require me to finish fixing my B&K 467 CRT tester (or I could borrow an older tester from work if it has the right adapter). I also just got a Sylvania CK3000 test jig, so I will try it out with the RCA's chassis if it included the right adapters (or when I get them). I will upload some pictures soon.

I tested the CRT with the '466 from work, and if I did it right (set filamant to 6.3v, set G1 to 50, set G2 controls to add one meter "tick" for each of the colors), it is good. Red was 78, green was 80, and blue was 75 on a 0-100 meter scale where good is 50 or better. If I did the tracking test right (pick the strongest color, set control so meter is at "normalize" position, compare other colors), blue is at 50% of green and red is at 75% of green, counting the "tracking" range on the meter (a narrow range) as a 0-100 area. The CRT appears to be the original, an RCA Hi-Lite. It has a sticker with the TV's serial number on it, matching the number elsewhere on the chassis and cabinet.

Sounds like a wiener!
