Woolco TV department, ca. 1964-66
 

Got this picture from Pleasant Family Shopping.

I love the term "Color TV Salon":D

Anyone recognize any of the models? I'm guessing that Woolco would have sold the lower-end brands, like maybe Emerson?

I see some stuff there that looks very familiar. The small phonographs on the left appear to be G.E. and the large B/W combo on the right looks like a Motorola. The color roundies look like RCA clones, but I can't tell what brand they are.

My Local Woolco sold Zenith, Ge and Fisher, this was around 1968-69.
Competitor Zahre sold RCA, Motorola and Scott. West Gibson sold Zenith, RCA, & GE.
J.M. Fields sold Motorola, JVC Nivico, Sylvania, GE and Admiral and Delmonico.

woolco?boy,do i remember them!they had the biggest store in the great southern shopping center back in the 60s.my brother worked in their auto repair department.i believe they sold zenith,admiral and ge.sun tv sold sylvania,philco,some rca ,motorola and many off brands.lazarus sold magnavox,high level rca and very high zenith.very fun days looking at those new sets.they all looked good when they are new.we all cried when woolco shut down.now there is a kroger store in the old spot with a walmart next to it.love to shop for the low level orion, polaroid or lg flat screen.they even have a subway right inside!personally,i d rather eat at the red grille.

The set on the right with the screen poking up looks like a Magnavox, seems to have sliding doors on top too..

The set to the right of the man is an RCA, the set under the word "salon" is a Zenith

If I remember correctly, Woolco also had a house brand called "Audition". I had an Audition brand clock radio as a kid. Maybe some of the electronics on display are the Audition house brand.

I don't remember Woolco in SoCal, but we had Whitefront. Based on what I've read here, that was similar. They had a variety of high end to low end TVs, radios & Hi-Fi, and also appliances and a little this 'n'that. Whitefront closed in the early 70s, but the appliance department lived on for awhile as ATA Stores.

The only tvs we bought from Woolco were Zenith and admiral.

I barely remember Woolco-they all closed in the very early 80s (in the states.) This seems strange-seems like the company would have been smarter to build on Woolco and close all the Woolworth's, sort of like Kresge/Kmart I guess.

Someday I need to borrow my Mom's high school yearbooks. There are some great ads showing the TV department at Sears c.1964-66.

Making me feel OLD... In my mother's high school year book, if there were ads, they'd be for a TRK-12 at a high-end department store in Philadelphia. :sigh:
