I wish I was closer and could pick up that ctc-9. I don't think I've seen a remote 9 before. The cabinet looks more like the one used on the remote control ctc-7, but the remote is the same as the one on my ctc-10.

Oooooh, Lordy, them's PURTY !!

How do those early RCA remotes work? They appear to take a battery and have a round "bulb" or something at the front. Is it similar to Zenith's Flash-Matic system?

That CTC-9 is a really beautiful set.

Adam 07-25-2009 01:04 PM

It's ultrasonic, but the remote's electronic, unlike Zenith's mechanical remotes.

Thanks, that's pretty cool. I hope those sets find nice homes and get restored to working order!

This CTC 5 has a 21CYP22 glass sub, not the original 21AXP22A CRT

:nono:This blond CTC 5 HAS a 21CYP22 replacement all-glass CRT subbed in place of the original 21AXP22A metal-cone CRT that was changed out sometime in this TV set's life. I got a 1956 RCA Westcott CTC 5 that's GOT the original 21AXP22A metal-cone CRT and there's also a greenish-gray color also to the original 1956 21AXP22A CRT as opposed to the more grayish color to the later Colorama and 21CYP22-type CRTs as seen here. The original 21AXP22A CRT also had a dimmer picture than the later Colorama and 21CYP22-type CRTs as well resulting in this CTC 5 losing it's original 21AXP22A CRT to this later 21CYP22 CRT that was most likely installed in the early to mid-1960's on this set. When looking at any CTC 5, check the CRT that it's the original
21AXP22A CRT and this will have a major impact on the value of that particular CTC 5 color set. If it's not a 21AXP22A CRT in that CTC 5, the CRT has been replaced and upgraded-simple as that. Another vintage color TV collecting tip from Electrome:-)

Over the years, I have had many 5's with a glass tube installed. It is a simple retrofit and easy job. You leave out the plastic cone and withdraw all purity magnets into their housings without removing them. Should you use a 21FBP22 sulphide (pea green) screen, it will have absolutely beautiful color with a very rich red.

do you also have to change the yoke? or is the yoke i see on the neck of this 5 just have a newer rear yoke support from a newer ctc ?

zenithfan1 07-26-2009 07:12 PM

I see the old mounting brackets on the sides, I think they did snap on a newer yoke cover that clamps to the CRT neck

This appears to have the official RCA glass tube adapter kit, which I could not find for my 5 and therefore had to improvise in order to use a 21FJP22.
