need ant.
 

I worked on a RCA small table top radio for a friend. It requires a long wire ant. but they do not want to string long wires in their apartment. Is there a good way to use a loop ant. from a junk plastic set with the ant. on the back? If so which wires from the loop would you put where?:scratch2:

it would help to see the schematic. the loop ant would need to replace the ant coil. do you have a model number so I can look it up on NOSair?

the ant coil will be part of a tuned circuit with the VC, the set could have a tuned RF amp, so you would need to be sure which coil is the ant.

the ant coil prob has a tap for the connection to an antenna.

All that being said the set should be able to pickup most local stations with a simple short ant of say 10 feet. If it does not then there maybe another problem.

The set in question ran very strong at my house but I have an ant. in my attic.As a matter of fact it picked up more than any radio I own. my friend did not want wire so I gave him a back to a plastic radio with an ant. but not knowing how to correctly add it in it only picks up a couple stations.I will get the model number and post it as soon as I see him again. Thanks!

again, they may want to at least try a shhort piece of wire.


Guess you could try just attaching on lead of the loop to the ant terminal 1st.
I am guess it will be pretty directional, maybe for than normal for a reg loop antenna equiped set.


To convert it to use a loop antenna in its tuning circuit is starting to mod the radio a bit (not even sure it the inductance of the loop would allow full tuning, that would depend on the VC and the loop). May not want to hack up the inside of the radio. Those old coils cant take a lot of abuse, it may make reversal of the procecdure a problem if it does not work.

As stated, radios are designed to use loop antennas or not. Simpler or earlier sets that use long wire antennas either won't work well or at all with the radical alteration that adding a loop would be. A loop antenna takes the place of the antenna coil in the set, and there may be other windings on the set's antenna coil that wouldn't be provided for by the loop. I.E., not a good idea to do. There are plenty of ways to use a radio that needs a long wire antenna so that the wire is unobtrusive. For example, the wire can be run under the edge of the carpet, and/or under the edge of the carpet and then up under the curtain and hooked to the curtain rod, or to the metal window screen.
