finally got me a roundie
RCA, looks to be mid 60's will get pics later. Termites have had a feast so the cabinet will prob be scrapped. Got it cheap so I can play with a color chassis.
I will take measurements to see if maybe I can reproduce the wood chassis. |

Hopefully you got yourself a CTC16 or CTC20... those make awesome pictures. If the inner framework is still intact, rebuilding your wood cabinet might not be so bad. Rich (Polaraman) rebuilt the wood cabinet on a 60's Sylvania roundie a few years back and did an excellent job! :yes: Probably turned out better than it was originally!

termites did a number on it, I cut off the bottom where the worst of the damage was (with the live termites in it. I will have to leave it intact for a while, maybe bag it and fill with propane? Of course removing the back resulted in one lost screw that fell some where on the chassis.... I have tried turning it over and on its side, but nothing is coming loose. It fell over by the HV cage. I was gentle on the turning over so as not to bang it around. I was going to pull the HOT, put it on a variac and measure the current to see if there was a chance the can caps are not shorted. ramp up slow of course. |

Wow... you've got a nice looking chassis there... still got a good shine to it! I like the 16XL's because I think the channel selector / control area is more attractive than the other 16's.

Not propane: could end up on the ten o'clock news. Good idea is to bag it and throw in a bunch of moth balls, seal securely. That'll get 'em.

there is a green and yellow wire of a transformer that sits directly behind the HV cage. It get full B+. I get 12 ohms to ground from that wire (I have disconnected it at the terminal strip). I get 20 ohms between it and the other green lead from the same side of the tranny. I assume that is ok, but that maybe there is a internal short between the primary and secondary. (there is another green lead that goes to the convergence socket and ground). I unbolted the transformer to see if the short was to the case, but that was not it. Can someone confirm the resistance reading I should be getting on that green/yellow lead to ground? I am sure that is what is causing the B+ issue. The filter caps checked out fine.

disconnect both of the green lead for the one side (not the convergence socket side) now the B+ load is about 8k with cold filaments (resistance reading at the output of the bridge rectifier). Was 24 ohms (yikes) with the transformer in circuit.
Gonna need some help locating a replacement, figured I would ask here, and give moyers a call. I need a part number. Its a CTC16XL, not sure what it is but its the xforer behind the HV cage. has grn/yellow (disconnect to find short to ground) grn (disconnect to find short to ground) blue red yellow then on the other side Orange blk/wht red/blk red/wht red/green green (this is connected to the chassis, I suspect it is a internal primary to secondary short causing the problem) |
