1920's art deco ANTENNAE table lamp
 

I figured this would be the best place to post this. I'm trying to find out a little more info on this lamp I found. The base height is approximately 6" to the socket assembly and the feet are 4 3/8" x 4 3/8" apart. Number 618 is on the outer edge of the inner base and has what looks like an A and S on the bottom of two of the feet. The rest is pretty self explanatory by the pictures.

Do you guys think I am close as to the date? I've never seen anything like this. The guy that I got it from told me that there should be a cap on the positive line (not earth ground) underneath the plate. I guess it was used to make the wiring in the house act as an antennae for whatever radio you connected to it. Pretty cool.

You sure find all the cool stuff Denny.. man would I love to stumble on something like that..

I never see cool art-deco stuff like that around here.



That is, unless you consider empty bottles of Mrs. Butterworth's to be arty-deco and cool. ;)

Searching, searching, searching..... and haven't been able to find any information on it. I think I need to contact one of the places that sell art deco lamps. I know at least one gives appraisals. Trying to find either a new or vintage slip on shade that would look nice. Tons of lamp shades out there.

Oh yeah, I found it by just doing a search on Ebay for "vintage" with the "nearest first" set. It will give you everything with vintage in the title. You can come across some pretty interesting things. The guy had a bunch of other older radio stuff he was willing to sell me too. Nice guy to talk to. I could have easily left with an empty wallet. :)

I stumbled across yours (or a similar one) while searching for vintage antennas a while back. I didn't realize what it was and forgot about it. Think I'll keep my eyes out in case another pops up.

The rust makes me think that this may be a reproduction of a deco piece. I think most good deco pieces are brass or bronze and not steel.

Plenty of cast iron was used in those days.
