delayed green on roundie
 

it takes a few minutes for my roundie green gun to come up to full power.

I replaced the G-Y tube with a new one (this is the CTC-16).

no change. I wa going to check to see if the voltages on the various grids and cathode were correct. Just wondering if others exp this. This is my 1st vintage color set so its all new to me.

That could just be a sign of the gun being weaker than the others. I have seen this effect on other color CRT displays with weak CRTs.

I have a few very strong CRTs that do it as well, one is in a '75 all tube GE color set. The tube tests like new and has an infinite life test count but is red on startup. I also have a round color tube that does exactly the same thing. There is also a '68 Zenith with an extraordinarily strong CRT that also is green on startup out in the garage. Have you tested the CRT yet? If it tests well with good life test, I wouldn't worry about it. Your CTC 16 is looking great. Sometimes the guns "wake up" at different rates.

Something I do when I get any color tv that has been sitting around for years is to set brightness and color at maximum, contrast and tint at half, and let it burn away for 20 minutes or so. I read on the tvrepairfaq site years ago that this cleans off the cathode surfaces. In theory this simply speeds up the waking up process, but if the tube is really weak then of course get a rejuvenator and let the filament cook a bit also.

no big deal it certainly is fine after a few minutes. I was just wondering if it could be in the drive circuits vs the CRT, hence wanting to check the voltages.
