HV rectifier plate cap desperately needed
 

Need a HV plate cap for my Zenith 29JC20.I can't see any more pictures on my tv until I get one. I got a new HV cup from Moyers but the plate cap they sent me is obviously more of a horizontal output tube plate cap than a Flyback HV rectifier cap. I know it will probably only come with a flyback . Doesn't anyone have a dead or spare flyback to take one off of.I don't care if it's off an RCA or what as long as it works and doesn't arc over.

The old one failed because the screw mounts holding the rectifier socket broke and the plate cap nearly touched the HV cage when the set was placed on it's side for working on the bottom of the chassis.

Just use one from a HOT, I used a ceramic one from an old guitar amplifier. lol Doesn't have to be anything fancy...

B&W sets just use a wire spring but I imagine with the voltages in a color set it may need to be insulated well.

Can you patch the one you have with some Dielectric Silicone Rubber? I did a whole Flyback with that stuff and it works fine.

I'd recommend pulling one off another chassis, but in the mean time, do as Eric suggests. Only thing I'd add, is be sure to break off the whole rest of the plastic cap, as it is now carbonized and has gone conductive. After you break it away and clean up the metal, install it and put a gob of black silicone over the whole cap, and be sure to let it dry OVERNIGHT. Then trim it smooth with a razor blade, so as not to have any pointy places that might invite arcing later.

I remember having some ceramic ones stashed somewhere. I did pull one off of an old Sylvania bw chassis I'm junking but it is the standard HO type. I've been digging around in the attic some recently, and if I get time I'll try to find something like you are looking for. I'll email you if it turns up. Who knows, if Kim decided she wanted to ride down that way I might even leave it on your doorstep...but don't hold your breath!

I might just ride up if you find one.I ned the inner metal clip also. One of the 3 clips that hold on to the cap broke off.

I pulled a couple things out today. I left my camera at work but I'll shoot you some photos Monday if I can. Maybe one of them will work.
