My new 50 cent tube amp...

3 Attachment(s)
Local tag sale find today for half a buck :thmbsp:-- it even works without a hummm in sight. Two 50EH5's and one 7025. Probably from a phonograph or small console.

Wonder what wattage?

Be careful, that's a hot chassis. One side of the powerline directly connected to the amplifier circuits, without any isolation, except maybe a capacitor. No power transformer. Looks like you have a bench isolation transformer. You can get an isolation transformer to wire into the amp at www.tubesandmore.com their P-TN-51X for about $22

The 50EH5 can produce about 1 watt. I'd replace the capacitors, those ceramic cylinder caps are just wax paper inside, which get leaky.

Hi Bob. Can you tell myself and others What the difference is between a 50EH5 and a 50C5? Also a 60FX5? I know the 50EH5 uses a 68 ohm cathode resister.

That's a cute little amp. I agree that it's probably from a small console or phonograph, that's the last place I saw one like that.

I think this will fit in better here with the Antique radios so I moved it.

This looks like a Magnavox amp. The 50EH5 has higher transconductance than the 50C5 which I think makes it a higher-gain tube.

The tube brands may be a clue to the provenance.

Definitely from a phonograph. I used to have one of these myself, Mine however, had come with 2 50C5s and a 12AX7. Kinda wished I kept it.
