rca 6-t-71

Ok I just was removing the knobs getting ready to move the cabinet downstairs to the shop, and took notice thru the front glass that the crt has about a inch and a half crack in it :dammit: :tears:
Anybody ever experience this? I'm expecting the crt to be shot. Whats the best way to remove the tube?
Tube diagram says it takes a 16gp4. Any subs for this???? Took a quick look on flea bay and found none.

Got three of them myself, well one is a 6T65 but all use a KCS-47 chaiss. To
remove the crt remove chaiss then the yoke assembly which is bolted to the cabinet. CAREFULLY pull on the neck of the crt with one hand and with the other support the bell. The crt should pull out with ease. You might as well after you get the crt out take out the screws that hold the plastic bezel to the cabinet once that is out the safety glass can be removed from the inside. Clean all those pieces well if not it can cause HV arcing.
As for your crt just for laughs try putting 6v on the filament and see if the it stays lit or in burns out (a sign of air in the tube).I don't think there is a sub for the 16GP4 but it is a common roundie tube. Used alot in 16"sets compared to 16" glass tubes.
The set wil make a good picture and great sound when working properly
Good luck
Terry

anybody know what glass crt I can mount in this for a sub?

Ok first checked filament for continuity and had it. Next hooked up 6.3 volts to the filament and it lit up....for about 2 min, then went out. Checked continuity again and it showed open. So yea it leaked....I figured it would. Any suggestions for a sub? Since these metal bell tubes are hard to find and cost a small fortune?

Tonight I decided to replace the e caps in the chassis, then I would see what happens and decide to part or not to part. I hooked up a 5axp4 to it, setting it on a wooden box. I also hooked up my b&K to it. I got the picture below. Crude, but there. So the set has the potential to be useable. I'll shelf the chassis until I come across a 16gp4.

Saw a console with that chassis a couple years or so ago at a thrift/antique place , i thought well the crt and chassis would be good for parts since theres no room for the cabinet , looked in the back and the neck was snaped off and i thought " Another 16GP4 wasted" .
