Quickie Vid Input for CTC 5
 

Installed this quickie Video input on a CTC-5 with bad tuner
(will also later try official RCA circuit others have posted)

*Lifted cathode & Plate resistors on V7b (Noise Inv half of 1st Video tube)
*Added these parts from this circuit off web under 1st Video Cath Follower tube
*Disconnected Vid Det wire wrap & connected this circuit to grid (may need DC Rest)
*Connected signal from 1st Vid cathode directly to Sync Sep C101 instead of thru Noise Inv (was surprised this worked as Noise Inv had gain?)
*Installed RCA socket in rear chassis existing gap
*Will add another RCA for audio
(all mods reversible & non-destructive)

Why in the world has no one replied?! Not having video-input is a quam we've all had to work around with our old tv's.

I'm off on a different tangent anyway, I'm looking into using component video. Since I just picked up the perfect experimentation chassis (Philco-Ford), I figured now is the time.

I use an RF modulator. Not as ingenious, but much simpler :)

I use the IF out of the BT modulator into the tvs IF if the tuner is a mess but its generally not too hard now that you only have to get one channel working and dialed in.

This is very cool though. Im going to save the info for a later date. I like your bench setup. I have a 7 waiting to be repaired but I hate that side mounted chassis. What a pita to work on.

I have a Sylvania 23v set from '67 that was missing the original tuner. I have cobbled something together but I'm not sure if I'll ever get it to work right. I've thought of just rigging up some dummy knobs and doing something like this. A someday project.

Yeah, miniman, having working tuners isn't the point. all mine work too .

The point, IMO, is not having to use the rf modulator.

No need for a modulator, I use old VCR's. I also picked up a Magnavox black box that turns composite into RF for free. The B-T thing isn't the only way to go, it just happens to be a favorite around here.

If you're using a VCR to turn composite video into RF, it is being used as a modulator. Just not a standalone one.

I really like this circuit because it has a low impedance input and doesn't invert the video signal. Ingenius!!!

Also, I must have missed the "official RCA circuit others have posted" and I'd like to see that one as well. Can anyone direct me to it?
