RCA roundie test jig
looks like it has very low time on it just from general cleaness of it. No markings on the CRT but I think its a non bonded (has saftey glass front plate, too dirtry to be sure but could not see a cat.
will check the CRT later. Even if bad, I will at least get a convergence assy/yoke/14pin connector. The cabinet is in very nice shape, hammertone grey. I may put my CTC-16 in it if the CRT is bad, the CTC-16 I have is in a eaten up (termite) cabinet that is to far gone to fix. That would give me a nice metal chassis table top. |

pics, can now see clearly there is a cat, so guess is a 21FJP22
tested with no emissions. hit it with 8v for a min, then turned it back down and let it cool off some, seems ok now. Its off now I will try it again at 6.3 and see how it does. My prediction is weak but useable. |
I am going to let it cook for a few hours at 6.5v. I have it on the variac as I dont like the idea of the CR-70 being left on that long esp with a amp hop like a roundie.
|
You won't hurt it, I left one on for 8 hours at 8 volts before. If you're worried, put a 6.3v tranny on it and let it cook.
|
Neat find!
How long are the cables coming off the yoke, convergence and CRT connector? |
I had one of those and kick myself sometimes for parting it out. Just too much of a space hog. Mine had a 70s-era HV meter installed. I still have all that, including the good test tube, in the attic.
|
the crt wires and yoke are abou 3ft, the convergene is just a reg lenght plug.
|
I had one just like that back in the late 70's. I would have kept it if it did not have "TEST TUBE" eched into the glass.
|
I have not looked closely enough to see if the 'test tube' is there.
I wonder if that could be ground out (that is if I wanted to use the tube in a tv set). hmmm since it clearly has a bonded tube in there I wonder if it were etched, would it be on the bonded lens and not the CRT face? |
Seems kinda' strange that it has a 21FJ in it..I wonder if that is a used tube replacement from another set?
I can't say that I've seen one of those before...interesting piece! |
Test tubes are normally factory rejects from what I understand, so even if you carefully polish out the acid etched words it might have some other issue like really bad purity or a jacked up shadow mask.
|
I think with that bonded tube it would have to be a replacement so you won't have to deal with the etch. Mine has it; more than one member here has said they can be buffed out. Maybe someday. Mine must not be too bad as the repairman I got it from said he used that crt in his TV at home for several years. Seems he bought a fairly new set with a necked crt; RCA practically gave away these test jigs, for less than the cost of a new crt from what he said. The etching kept them from just buying up a bunch and trashing the cabinets.
