Hey gang! I just picked up a Webcor clock radio model CR-1180. Anyone familiar with this brand and model? The telechron movement has "68" stamped on it. I'm guessing that's the year it was made. The radio and clock both still work perfectly.

That sure does scream "1968"! Webcor was the brand of Webster-Chicago and was mostly known for record and tape players. I don't know that they did much in radio until later years when I guess they needed to diversify to stay around. If this was made in the US then it was probably among their last American made radios.

Given the webcor gear I've seen and accumulated, I thought they died in the mid to late 50's seeing how new your set is is a bit surprising to me.

Nope, it's a Japanese unit. It's got a pretty decent radio in it. Sound quality isn't half bad either, sounds better than most clock radios its size today. I just noticed as I type this that it's got a 3 inch Pioneer speaker in it! The speaker is fixed to the brown board backing, not sure what you call it?

I have that same set in green, and I love it. My complaint is that you can't really read that clock unless you are right on top of it. The hands needed to be darker.

Wow it came in other colors? Yeah, the face is gray while the hands are chrome, a slight design flaw if you ask me.
