Just complete the jingle on the FAB detergent box top, and be one of 100 selected winners!

Was this a 15GP22 based set? I wonder how many were actually given away!

I wouldn't touch that on a bet. But I do bet you will get it back as undeliverable... (If you put a return addy)

Wayne,

Where ever did you find that??? It's fantastic. Can I use it on my web site with credists to you? It would make a wonderful addition to my 16CK1 restoration page.

Thanks
Bob

Motorola Contest

I wonder who won?

Now we know that at least 100 of these were sent out to great poets.

Just a serendipitous ebay search. And yes, you may use it with credit. The original is on its way to ETF to sit on top of the 19" Moto there.

I didn't inlcude the other three sides because they don't mention the contest; but here they are. By the way, the correct dimensions are about 8.5x6x2.2 inches.

reeferman 12-15-2011 11:51 PM

It was a 15GP set.

Steve McVoy 12-16-2011 08:56 AM

I just noticed the date on the contest: August 15, 1954. By this time Motorola had introduced their 19 inch sets. FAB must have gotten a deal on the outdated 15 inch ones.

ChrisW6ATV 12-17-2011 09:20 PM

That is a cool item! I also find it interesting that in 1954, an 8.5x6" box of detergent was called "large". These days, that would be the tiny box you buy at 7-11 in an emergency.

I hear "Fab jingle", and I am reminded (after decades, still not forgotten) of their newer one:
"Oh Fab
I'm glad
They put
Enzyme-action borax
In you!"

I think I am missing a line before or after "enzyme action", though.

N2IXK 12-18-2011 12:11 AM

Anyone else notice that FAB was recommended for washing both your laundry and your dishes?

The contest is very similar to those that are featured in the book and movie "The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio". It is a true story of a mother who, having little money and a large family to care for, entered every high-stakes jingle contest there was from the early 50s until they went out of style in the mid 60s:

Typically, if she won something like the Motorola, it would have been sold for cash.
