My most recent acquisition

The most recent addition to my collection: this cute small console made by Philips in March of 1961. 21 inch screen. Philips has a long History here in Brazil, it started selling radios sometime around 1927 I believe. Prior to this set the older Philips in my collection was a hybrid portable from the early 70's. I have been dying for years to have a Philips TV from the 50's or early 60's and now my wish has been fulfilled. This particular model must be pretty rare: in 12 years collecting vintage TVs I have seen a reasonable number of Philips TV sets from the 1950's and 60's and have NEVER seen such a model except in a magazine advertisement of 1960.

Nice find! I really like the wood pattern on the doors

Thank you. Yes, the pattern on the door is really cool, it really represents the style of the period.

Why did they put the tuner all the way in the back? It seem this would make fine tuning the set dificult. It is a neat set by the way. Twenty-one inch screens still seem big to me, especially on these consoles.

That is one nice looking set  Here in New Zealand we also had Philips TV sets based on european designs but never one in a fancy cabinet like yours.
Great Find :) Cheers.

What a pretty little console, I love the design! I too am perplexed by the tuning knob being way in the back?

I'm hoping you could share a picture of the tube-layout diagram, if it has one!

That TV, and the room it's sitting in, looks like it's located in surburban USA back in the late 1950s. Only thing that gives it away is the outlet on the wall to the right of the set.
