Very nice. Where do you guys find the time to get these restored so quickly? I've got five or six sets backed up that I just can't seem to get to because of work, home maintenance, honeydew projects, etc......:sigh:
even if you only spend a few min a week on any one, if you do that it will get done.
We always expect Zeniths to shine but that Philco also looks great! I can just hear a "dummy up - you" after the rapsberry
Both very nice sets indeed. Great stuff!
So Big Dave, what kind of issues did these sets have?
Big Dave you are magnificent man large impressive also for saving the spirits of old tvs!:banana::banana::banana::banana: please do not listen to the Gislan serpent who will tell you old tvs are worthless! :thumbsdn::sigh::nono: he is a DEVIL and you will be honored :thmbsp:
These tvs very much beautiful upper caste. I hope they pleasure you for years long time. The man on screen where I come from is insulting for showing tongue mouth. Why do you choose him? :tears::tears: Againg yes good work for you. :music::music::smoke: |
Marty,
The Zenith had a bad vertical output transformer. I think one of the secondaries had a shorted winding. Initially, with the Telematic convergence load used, the picture (on the rig) was good. When I put the chassis back in the cabinet, with the factory convergence board, the picture rolled uncontrollably. Two resistors tied to the primary got hot. I found a replacement not too far away. That fixed the vertical issue. I also found both horizontal phase diodes open. I replaced them with 1N918's (available from Rat shack). It took three tries to get the convergence acceptable. I finally got convergence useable, so I call this done. Philco: One of the 100mf/350V lytics was dead shorted. That took out a 470 ohm resistor. The rest of the lytics reformed to specs. I got it looking passable on the rig. I did have a major issue with the 21FB. One of the filament wires broke off. I had enough of a nub to replace the wire going to it. That fixed that. Once I did the usual setup, Archie was blowing a raspberry, then the picture bloomed. The 3AW2 was toast. The needle barely moved on my Eico. I did a little research and found that a 3BT2 will sub, as long as ONLY pins 1 and 12 are used. That fixed the blooming. The pic shows the end result. I am a little disappointed in the quality of the sound. But, the eye tube looks cool. The blue dial display also looks great. As soon as I can rearrange my display, we will see a wall of roundies. Coming soon... |
same philco set my dad bought back in 1966.tuning bars and it had a fine picture for the first couple years.it started fade and mr thompson would come and jolt it once a year.10 dollar service call.i posted before that spanky mcfarland was working for philco back than and he made an appearance at sun tv.dad made it short and sweet for the sales rep."i want the best set you have,i am paying cash today and i also want a discount for this reason.this will be your easiest sale today.you wont make as much commission but you will move a unit."loved my dad.class act until his untimely death when i was a teenager
