VHS in PAL format
I'm honestly not sure where this fit best so if one of the mod's feel this best belongs elsewhere, feel free to fix it!
Searching on eBay earlier, I found a VHS copy from Australia of an episode of The Beverly Hillbillies that hasn't made it to DVD nor was it on Columbia House releases in the late 80's. The problem is that it's in PAL format. How, if possible, would I be able to get this to play on my NTSC VCR? I don't mind the asking price (almost $30) but it's not worth it if I can't use it! |
In Europe many PAL VHS machines can play NTSC tapes, albeit with a strange hybrid output standard that's 525/60 but with PAL 443 colour. My understanding is that few if any NTSC VHS machines have a similar capability with PAL tapes.

What you need is a Samsung SV-5000W. It will convert that PAL tape to NTSC output. Many of these were sold in the US. I think I worked on half of them back in the day! Power supply problems. But once fixed, pretty reliable.
