1959 RCA CTC-9 Kenbridge from Minneapolis.

Back in January a Kenbridge popped up an an estate sale in Minneapolis. I asked Gary k to please go look at it and pick it up for me if he could. It had a sold sign on it when he got there. I figured "oh well" and said thank you very much for checking. Later on there was a CTC-11 that he posted about, I got that one (I started a thread on it a while ago) and figured I'd just never get a remote set........but I wished for it back in January, little did I know, a mid century dealer bought it and a pending resale fell through. Anyways, a message popped up on a day that was really bad for me, turns out Gary ended up with it and graciously offered it to me first. Thank you so very much! Turned that bad day right around yo! This is a set I only dreamed of before. The tube has a brightener that I removed for transport, I checked it out and secured it, then it and me were rollin' in my beat up green ford van back to SE WI. Until I get settled again, I won't be able to work on it but at least I have it. The brightener is an isolation brightener, not a booster but I haven't been able to test the tube yet so we'll see. Either way, I have a rare earth grey face 21GUP22 to put in if necessary. I also need to find a remote but at least I have the much harder part to find :)

Here is where it was stored safely until I could come get it.....Thanks Gary!

Congratulations! That's a really beautiful RCA, I like the way the top edges of it "rolls-up" To agree with Sandy "Can't wait to see the beautiful lollipop color" on it, someday! :-) Nice score.

Thanks Dave! :) I really can't wait until I'm settled again, I've never had the chance to work on a 50's color remote set or own one. To say the least, I'm really excited, not only because it's a remote set but it's the exact one I've wanted for a long time. I absolutely love this cabinet style and feel thankful and blessed to own it. I think the little hint of Chinese styled upturned edges make it....well, "sexy" as a old tv set can be.:smoke: The shiny lacquer finish adds to that too I think. It came to me at a time where everything is nuts but made me pull my head out of my butt and think, well, not everything is bad, I'll get through the life stuff and have a fun toy to play with later :) Even before I restore it, it will be the centerpiece of my new living room, which I hope is like, really soon lol. :thmbsp:

Wow, nice set! Even if the CRT turns out to be weak it looks like its had a pretty comfy life otherwise. Should be fun to restore. Great score!

Hi Mark, I wish you the best, as you get settled, and on the restoration of the Kenbridge! BTW, if it turns out that you don't need that isolation brightener, don't toss it, starting to look like I may need one, eventually, for a "funky" 21FBP!

That's a nice looking cabinet design. Looks "stereo ready"!

That is a really nice looking 9, The vert chassis RCA's are my favorite, lots of room, small pcb's, and if your lucky mostly good film caps.

Ctc9

When I was youngster My aunt was the first one in the family to get a new color set it was that exact same CTC 9 set pictured here . She lived in SF and
kept the RCA factory store busy servicing it for a number of years they were there frequently. I even watched them do a convergence and Degaussing etc. on it once after they put the Chassis back in it . Someone said (maybe an urban legend or some salesman ) that it was better to have the older sets facing North or South because of Magnetism issues Imagine that! (they it even put a CRT in it ) ofc she had a service contract .

I don't know what year it was when she first got it maybe 1959 1960?
We did not get one until 1962 a CTC 12 Curtis Mathes Clone could have even been an oem RCA chassis in there I'm not sure how C/M did it then. Anyway cool sat you have there

Not into roundies here, but that aside, it's a very nice looking set to me. Perhaps Ron can hook you up with a remote, I believe he said he has two of them.

Really a very fine tv set! I think one of the best. It's quite reminescent the CTC7 Whortington model, my favourite RCA tv set that I'm looking for in every place!
My best wishes!

now that's a great looking set! Would look good in any room setting. As I look at my Plasma TV I don't like it in any room! :-) Where has the styling gone?

zenithfan1 09-03-2013 03:06 AM

Again, thanks guys! Hey Jim, I know what ya mean about "any room setting" Just wait.... I have plans for my new living room that involve new and old, I'm pretty good at interior decorating.....hate to admit it but WTH, I really like it! :)
