Sylvania Roundie
 

I'm getting this Sylvania Roudie set that seems to have life in it.. It's a long distance set and paying for shipping.. I'm taking a gamble with the picture tube..

Nice looking tv.... It's lit up, and looks like adequate room light so I would say the
tube is in good shape..... That set looks like I've seen it recently.... ebay, or CL??

Sylvania branded tube........ interesting.....

It was listed on eBay.. It wasen't posted on here, at least I didn't see it.. I got the seller down alot from the price it was listed.. It was a bit steep..

The Sylvania CRT was one of the first production Sylvania CRT's. I saw a lot of Magnavox roundies, that used that CRT.
One of the early rare-earth CRT's. I think, they were first to use RE phosphors. :thmbsp:

As I recall, the same seller also had another roundy, a Philco maybe?

I have that chassis in a metal cab faux wood finish. watch out for crystalized tube sockets (white plastic PCB mounted ones). Also if the pcb was like mine, the traces are pretty fragile, so watch out for lifting.

IIRC, Magnavox used those as well.
I know for sure Arvin used them, in their radio's. They were smart enough, not to use them for the 50C5 or 35W4.

They were so bad on mine that the plastic was gone but the pins remained. You could leave them alone if careful about tube removal and replacement. the plastic really did nothing anyway. IIRC promptly replaced with some NOS same kind of socket (they will never see the same amount of use) then just put the set aside. will have to get it down one day and fool with it again. I think it had some jerky horz shifting going on that I did not bother to look into (too many other projects going).

About the time that set came out is when Sylvania introduced the rare earth red phosphor. My parents had one they were great sets.

Does anyone know what year the set is and is that a D01 chassis? All of Sylvania line Was great when it was GTE. I worked for a shop in the early 70's that handled it and GE too. Some of the GE stuff was a disaster. Perry Como used to advertise Sylvania.

I don't think, you'll get too many people to disagree your statement about GE.
