philharmonic 8200 tabletop tv
 

hi, I was given a philharmonic table top round crt tv. I looked around the web & didnt find much on them. I have been watching bandersentv on youtube so I contacted him. he said this is the place to be. so what I'm looking for is when was my set built, & would anyone here have any schematics for it? I have some pics that I will post. thanks in advace, radar

Sams lists Philharmonic sets, but not a model 8200. Might want to check that model number. Totally possible that it's not listed, but a second look doesn't hurt.

Most of the Sams for the Philharmonic TVs are in folder 173, which I have, and that's too new for your set.

I found it in the Riders index. It's covered in volume 14 with only two pages :( The first has very brief alignment instructions and a voltage chart.

The second page is a schematic. It's a pretty basic design but does include DC restoration. I'll PM you a link where you can download it later today.

Riders TV index lists a Philharmonic Model 8200 in Vol. 14-1, but I can't access that volume.

thanks guys, its a start. the model number in the cabinet tag says 8200 so thats what I belive it to be.I tested the crt with my b&k 440 crt tester, it tested a little weak. I think it will be ok though.

It looks like an early version of a Tele-King, the way the power transformer is mounted under the chassis.
Riders always had the coverage mixed in their manuals. They never followed by year. I know that vol. 14 covers 1954-1955.
That model was built a lot earlier. :scratch2:

If I had to guess year 1949-51??? no tuner klunker, Just a tunning cap like a radio.:dunno::dunno:

I would be interested in seeing a photo of that tuner when you get to it. A very few TVs used air variable caps for tuning, including the Pilot TV-37 and the unidentified chassis used in my Scott 800 combo.

The schematic shows a 13 position switch for the tuner.

The Sonora 302 is another set with variable cap tuning.

IIRC those Arvin metal cabinet hospital sets with the 7" metal cone tubes had var cap tuners too.

bob & phill in picture 5 if you zoom in on it you can see the tuner through the chassis bottom right corner. I will take another picture soon as I put it back in the cabinet so nothing gets damaged or misplaced while Im cleaning up my shop/work bench. the tuner is 13 channel as per the escutchoen on the cabinet. the outer shaft main tuner turns 360 deg no detents, inner also same fine tuner.

I was going to guess it was that type from your picture of the tuner dial. The musical note represents the FM radio band, which your set will tune between channels 6 and 7.
If it has channel 1 specifically marked on the tuner, then it is from 1948 or earlier. Very nice find!

well we made some headway on the philharmonic yesterday. I went to my tv/radio mentors place with the set. we worked on it for several hours. replaced some caps & out of spec resistors. we now have raster on the top half of the picture tube. but still have some issues. but she is slowly coming to life. :thmbsp:

That's a good sign when there's a raster. Check the ion trap and focus coil/ or magnet.

philharmonic update
 

well guys, I'm back after a rough year. had some bad stuff happen. but things are looking up. anyhow, I just dug the philharmonic back out. was wondering if any new info has surfaced on my set or if any one has ever seen one? was looking at the knobs and I think they may be off a rca or a philco. there was old glue in them and the tunning knob says UHF VHF off on it in very small letters. I know this set doesn't have UHF. my guess the originals either striped out, broke ,or got lost sometime in the past. I would love to see another set like this so I can see what the heck they are supposed to be. anyhow , glad to be back. I look forward to catching up on what I missed here.
