Electrolytic capacitor plague

I don't know if this topic or a thread is out there, but thought I bring it to the table. Yeah, I've had to repair a handful of LCD TV's, some monitors, and other devices built in the mid 2000's era due to this problem.

Yes, have encountered the same thing on many Fender amps made from '99 thru the mid '00's. They were all branded as "IC".

These time-bombs were a perfect way to permanently slow down a PC. After several months to a year, those caps would bulge and the system slow down to a crawl and start to get crashy. I say time-bomb because I always thought of it (and still do) as the perfect built-in failure. After the year manufacturer warranty was up; buy a new one. Don't dare try and swap out a motherboard from underneath the operating system, unless you wanted to buy a new license or run a crack. Not good situation at all for the independent servicers.
