Does any one have a schematic for the Sparton 4951? I'm curious how many parts it has in common with the Sparton 4900.

Is your set like my Sparton pictured here? Seems like a sticker bore the model # on this and it fell off. Somehow I don't have the model # for it. I keep them in a file, but I have a question mark next to it. Some home renovation work has it really hard to get to right now. I need a Sams or other schematic for it. Perhaps the # is on the chassis. It is the set playing on the right. I don't hear the name mentioned much, but they must have been one heck of a company from a quality standpoint.

I bought this little 17" back when I was maybe 13 years old to watch. I am 45 now and that is the way the set plays!! No restoration at all! It's been quite a while since I had the back cover off, but I remember the build quality and circuit design being up there with the likes of DuMont, without the sheer overkill of circuitry.

I want the schematic as the set plays as seen after a growing period of warmup to get decent width. Inversely, as the set plays it develops vertical shrink at the bottom of the raster. I figure I just need to get rid of a few paper caps in the two circuits and it will go another 60 years. Of course I probably won't.:scratch2: It certainly deserves the attention after the kind of service it has given since before I was born. If I don't come up with a schematic, I may simply be able to identify my circuits the hard way and hope for decent component labeling and/or color codes.

Back when I got it, an older man watched it all day on the weekends while selling at the flea market here. It wasn't for sale, but the curious kid finally got him to let me have it for $15. I remember him saying that it was the only set he had and asking me what he was to watch if I took his TV. $15 was fair as it turns out, but was actually a bit high for a kid and in those days for an aging set. Sets like that were always coming through the Goodwill store. The Philco on the left was bought there about 2 years later for $10. To me, that 21" screen was a big move up. Still have it too; right behind me at the ready. Not for sale.....:D

The Sparton I am asking about does not look like your photo. I just bought a model 4900 which is a whale of a set to have as my main living room set. The 4952 is up for silent auction today at the ETF convention and I'm hoping to bring it home so I will have spare parts for the restoration if needed.
