Kamakiri's great television trek

So....from the period from say March 24 till May 3, I put on close to 2,500 miles on the car, visited a lot of my TV friends, made trade deals, and got a TON of sets.

Here's what I ended up with. Needless to say that I'll have no shortage of things to do in the near future. The '50s portables went in a trade deal to one friend though....which is just as well because I'm a console guy at heart, and he loves the dang things :)

More!

Might be a couple more I missed, but that's all I can remember. And tube caddies, and tubes, and cool old test equipment, etc.

Downsizing appears to be a possibility. Right now I'm in triage mode

Now that's a haul! You forgot to mention that you also managed to help other collectors while you were at it. A very big thank you for the Sams Photofact folders and the capacitors for restuffing purposes.

Kamakiri 05-08-2015 07:57 AM

It was the least I could do. Ironically I had a Sams for a 3" Pilot, gave it to Al because he's been drooling over them for a year now. The next day, he scores one at ETF!

Ended up bringing back a CTC-10, a '72 Zenith color console, and a Philco color roundie from ETF for one guy, and am storing a CTC-4 for another collector in Texas that came up for sale at ETF.

Still on a hunt for a CTC-53 for another TV buddy.

By the way, did you ever end up picking up the Sparton?

Wow, what a haul! :thmbsp:

That's a real cool little Emerson!

No :sigh:. I got outbid by some one else. We'll see when my whale shows up if I really needed it anyway.

Got one of those little metal Emerson sets. Got it years ago--I THINK at an Estes auction. Beleive it is cold. Never messed with it...though it had been stolen in the robbery....but I found it last year when I moved my stuff.

Figure it was their answer to the RCA 8" set..

Kamakiri 05-08-2015 12:35 PM

I had it recapped within a week of getting it. Has sound, HV, but no raster. Picture tube tests good too. But I'll get to that at some point, right now the biggest fish I'm frying is how to organize all of this stuff into a moderately packed finished basement.....

VERY cool sets!

Performance-wise, it was better than the RCA. Same RCA built CRT.
Power transformer, voltage doubler PS. Standard Coil Neutrode tuner. Same one, as on the larger Emersons. It uses a 6AQ5 audio output, where the RCA used the triode half of a 6U8. I has an external speaker jack and a phono input. Add a record player and you have a small-scale home entertainment center. :thmbsp:

I had the same little Emerson, given to me by a friends family, same color, sold it cheap at the Oak creek hamfest a few years ago, I hope someone was able to bring it back to life.

I bought that one on the way to Lancaster PA, at a place called Roller Mills Antiques in Lewisburg PA. Think I paid $30 or $35.
