Here are the last two pages of the WEFM program guide from December 1956, featuring Space Command remote control, and the Zenith "no sales" Display Salon in downtown Chicago.

The complete guide is at:

Thanks for sharing! What a wonderful program guide and a look back to a time so different from today.

Thank you for posting the link to the program guide. It shows what FM radio was like in the early days and the great effort that was made to program music for radio. Everything is even spelled correctly!

I collect old classical and Christmas LPs and it's nice to see how they were used back in the day. Christmas programming didn't start until the 16th of December. How refreshing! They not only played the standard Christmas fare, but also played Christmas music from all over the world.

Nowadays it's all geared to short attention spans and they can't even play an entire symphony. In 1956 they played entire recorded operas. The record collection at WEFM must have been incredible.

In those days, FM was primarily easy listening/beautiful music/classical oriented. There was hardly any such thing as a full time Country station even on AM in that era.

Well, from a listener point of view, WUSN seems to be doing well, in fairly recent history, the station has been as high as #5 in Chicago, while the remaining classical station in the area, WFMT is usually near the bottom of the list. Two WFMT hosts, Peter Van De Graaff and Suzanne Nance have recently moved to Oregon stations KWAX (in Eugene) and KQAC (in Portland). Tough times for WFMT??? :scratch2:
