JVC GR-C7 camcorder, flashing lights
I have a JVC GR-C7 VHS-C camcorder from 1986. It usually works just fine, but once in a while, while playing a tape, it inexplicably stops playing, retracts the tape, and then the Stop and FF lights flash. It then won't respond any further until I turn it off and back on, after which it works just fine.
Anyone know what causes this, or what the flashing lights mean? I couldn't find a manual online, and the GR-C1 manual doesn't mention any similar condition. The Zenith VM6200 is the same camcorder, if anyone has a manual for that. I have two of these, and it's just this one that does this. Thanks! Edit: I guess this is my first post! I've been a member for 3 years and thought I've made posts before, but I guess not. So, hello! |
Well, I figured out what the problem was - it happened every time I went to play the tape after rewinding it - the tape became too slack and the take-up reel wouldn't start moving, causing the camcorder to stop playing and spin the supply reel backwards to retract the slack tape. I guess the flashing lights indicate a potential tape jam. Anyhow, the problem cleared up after using the camcorder more.

The flashing lights mean something. I recall in the JVC service manuals would be a table of error codes. Some Camcorders and VCRs would store error codes to be retrieved and cleared with a service specific remote control.
