any analog stations left? skip was amazing friday
Any analog Tv in Canada or Mexico? Skip Friday was so good I couldn't hear a new York Fm station and found I was listening to a mass station..... there were other spots on the dial with stations not normally there and the mass station overriding the Ny was on ocassions interrupted for a moment by a religious station so it was crazy.

CFJC still operates about a half dozen VHF transmitters. They all run at absurdly low power these days (0.009kW? Christ almighty) but they have no plans to switch over to digital.

Nothing here on the tele except good WX radio recept on my scanner.Did not try the FM radio band.

I still can receive UHF 42 from Canada... At least I think it's 42... could be 48. Last time I saw it, maybe 2 months ago I using a set with no detents on the dial ('68 Zenith) so the numbers aren't exactly precise and I didn't stay tuned in long enough from a DX.

We still have one analog in DFW, KNAV, on Ch 22.
From Wiki.. "...as of January 2012 KNAV had still not begun broadcasting in digital. With their authority to remain off the air expiring, KNAV returned to the airwaves as an analog station broadcasting Hot TV." |
Should be some analog LPTV & translators left in the US as the deadline for translators was postponed indefinitely, since these stations might not survive repacking anyway:
https://apps.fcc.gov/edocs_public/at...A-15-486A1.pdf jr This list of licensed LPTV and translator stations *might* be an indicator, although it appears to include some stations with a "D" or "LD" suffix, which indicates digital operation or construction permit for digital. https://transition.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/t...2=&EW=W&size=9 . |
One low power analogue station still operating in Phoenix. Channel 48, Daystar. Its about 21 miles from my rooftop antenna. It's amazing to still see the the snow and all the artifacts from the old signal on my screen. Here is a screen shot.

Would that be K48NH (city of license Globe Az) ? The FCC site shows that is now digital.... :scratch2:

E-Skip was great for several days last week, Friday being the best by far. I'm a ham radio operator, and talked to a guy from Ontario on 6 meters FM (52.525 MHz), and also from Florida. Strong signals all the way around, and I was only pushing about 45 watts of power.
It's been a long time since I've seen anything come across on analog TV. I thought about it last week while all the sporadic-E was going on, and wished I had an outside TV antenna. |

The analog 48 must be transmitting on ch 48, but the two digital ch 48s are likely transmitting on another OTA channel, perhaps from a different location???
A real head-scrarcher... any more info? :scratch2: jr |
My television scanned for both digital and analogue and picked up Chanel's 48, 48.1 and 48.2. 48 is definitely analogue as you can see by this screenshot about 20 minutes ago.
http://www.visions4.net/journal/wp-c...image-105.jpeg Wiki: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/KDTP-LP I think it's transmitting from South Mountain. |
I think there are more then one low power UHF analogue stations operating in the Phoenix valley. My old micro portables are picking up channels other then 48. One is a shopping channel, another a Spanish speaking channel. We are too far from Mexico for the signal to get to me. I can't tell for sure what channels they are, the TV is scanning with the green vertical line on a LCD set.
Edit: My main viewing set is only picking up one analogue channel 48 because the roof top antenna is fixed and pointed toward Phoenix. I can point the monopole antennas on the portables in different directions. |
Some of them might be indicated on this list:
https://transition.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/t...his+Page%2FTab jr edit add: looks like Wikipedia has the confusing saga of KDPH-Lp ch 48 analog & ch 46 digital sorted out: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/KDPH-LP jr |
I feel bad I missed the band opening!!!!!
6 meters doesnt open very often..... Must have been fun!!!!!!!! Was 2 open also?? (I would have loved getting some good 3 meter stuff (88.1 - 107.9)) |
