Pilot and 3rp1 ?

Has anyone ever used a 3rp1 crt in a pilot tv. I tried plugging a 3rp1 in and the pic was small so I was wondering if anyone ever tried one and was able to adjust the vert size , horiz size , and centering without changing or modifying anything to the set. When I tried it I didn't try to adjust anything thing since the 3kp1 was adjusted and thought plugging the 3rp1 it would have been the same result as the 3kp1 as both tubes are 3 inch, but it wasn't .

No! If you look up the data sheets for each tube, you will find that that the 3RP1 requires much higher deflection voltage (both horizontal and vertical) per inch of deflection. Design wise, it likely has smaller deflection plates.

Not possible to maybe make up enough difference with the adjustments on the set?

Adjustments will help, but I suspect that you will not quite get full screen coverage.

Ok , well I may try because I have a new 3rp1 and the tube in there is a 3kp1 which may be Alittle weak as it could be brighter.

If the 3RP1 is like my 3RP4 you need to make an adaptor. The pinouts and pin count are different than the 3KP4.

I have heard that a 3RP1 can be subbed for a 3KP4, with some extra expenditure of effort, but haven't monkeyed around with that yet myself. There are also at least two different versions of the 3RP1. The standard one, and a shorter one also identified as DG-32 or CV2431 that was used in the Marantz 10B tuner. A standard 3RP1 will not work in the tuner. I assume that they are electrically identical, but don't know that for sure.

The 3rp1 tube I have is a series's A , flat face , and no it don't work the pic is to small and cannot get it any bigger but that's ok I just got a NOS 3kp1 .

I think the tube for the 10B tuner is a DG7-32, which is shorter than a 3RP1. Although the pinouts appear to be the same, the specs for the two tubes are different, most notably, the heater current of the DG7-32 is only 300 mA, and would likely blow out quickly if used in the Pilot circuit unless the heater is shunted. The DG7-32 also has a conductive coating on the crt face which apparently allows the tube to be used at lower voltage.

Save your DG7-32s for Marantz 10B tuners! :music:

I think for the Marantz you want the "flat face" 3RP1-A.

Also note that China is apparently producing the 3RP1-A, which should keep the price low for a while. Currently under $25 shipped.

Nope, at 9 1/8" long the 3RP1 or 3RP1A is simply too long to fit in 10B.... this is what is needed:

Only about 6 3/4" long.
