playing back hi8 digital8 video8 to copy to dvd
 

Hi

I'm trying to copy Hi8 & video8 tapes to dvd for someone off of craigslist but when i play them back in my samsung hi-8 camcorder it has a staticy picture

they were recorded on a sony DCR-TRV 530 but he said his was broken
so i guess my samsung hi-8 one is not compatible

do i need to buy the same model or will other ones work?
he has 26 tapes some of them are 8mm, hi8, digital8
but i'm guessing the signal on all of them is digital because i tried a few different ones.

The DCR is an early digital format using old style 8mm tapes. If they were all recorded on the DCR, they are all digital. Your Samsung Hi8 or Video8 is analog only and will not play them. The DCR cameras are still around on ebay and are not overpriced.
