City of LA sticker
 

I notice a sticker on my Hallicrafters T-54A that I was wondering about. It has a sticker that says "City of LA APPROVED, BLDG & SAFETY" with a serial number.

I was wondering what that was. Did LA residents need to register their TVs or something?

Maybe. Could be the set was gov't property.

Building & Safety department, may have been an approval of safety like Underwriters Laboratories. I have no idea if it was mandatory or not.

In LA, this was their safety standard, their version of UL, but a local code.

Some Dynaco stereos have a sticker that is similar to that. Apparently to sell electronics in LA that were not UL or ETL listed, they had to have the local (and presumably less stringent) listing.
