Philco Predicta On/Off Switch
How easy OR difficult is it to replace an On/Off Switch that is playing dead in my Predicta Princess model? My assumption (from no real knowledge) is that I would need to:
- Unbolt the Chassis from its metal cabinet - Slide the Chassis out a bit; if not entirely? - Unsolder / Remove the Switch - Resolder / Install the Switch? Thanks! |
Assuming you have a switch/pot on hand it should be easier than that... The power switch should be the same as in my debutante. It's mounted to a metal plate that is secured to the front with 2 nuts inside the cabinet and connected to the main chassis with ~1' of wiring harness.
You should be able to pull the volume and contrast knobs, remove the 2 nuts on the backing plate, pull the backing plate/switch/pot assembly out above the chassis then do the repair... If you don't have a replacement or have an incompatible replacement you could solder a jumper across the switch terminals to make the set work till the right part gets sources. |
Ah! Thank you very much! That helps me visualize it & feel more confident about doing the job!
