Volvo Meltdown at McDonalds
 

I don't understand how these things happen. Seems to me this shouldn't happen with a modern late model car.

Lookupaplate.com indicates it's a 2011 model. The township where this occurred (Doraville GA) does not have a fire department.

I hope they weren't injured. No FD sounds like a now-desolate area, de-investment in rural USA. Some ghost towns in PA still have a FD.:smoke:

A friend of mine had his AT oil overheat and car-becue his 3 YO truck, trailer and boat in rural western PA, descending a long grade.

He and buds got out, GM wrote a check (ins?), we cheered. The "yinzer" later went shopping for a new Ram, despite our cautions. :sigh:

Looks like the firewall did its job.

Some cars use wire insulation that rodents like to eat, then the cars either catch fire or become inoperable.
If your injector seals leak or oil leaks onto the exhaust that can cause a fire too.

Regardless of the age of your car having an extinguisher isn't a bad idea.... Except for EVs/hybrids... Lithium batteries provide their own oxygen source so they can't really be extinguished...drive a burning EV into a lake and it'll keep burning underwater!

Both G and YT are full of engines exploding from people going 10K and even 20K
miles between oil changes.
