Arcing Flyback
 

I've got a problem with a flyback arcing from the HV winding over to the 1B3 heater leads. Are there silicon replacements for the 1B3? Is the heater lead lenth critcal? They are cut kinda short so they do come close to the HV winding. Can you still get corona dope? I also was thinking maybe teflon tape might work. What are your thoughts?

Careful. Some modern wire on hv is resistance wire, including alot used on tube modern tv's. It was used to leave out carbon resistor in hv filament supply, a cost cutter. Also, is winding arcing, or filament winding. Usually if filament winding is arcing, it arcs to core. If hv donut is arcing could be shorted turns. Look for pin-holes in insulation. Not always there in early stages, but, one sure fire way of seeing problem. I've had flybacks where flyback checker said it was good, but, under actual load conditions, due to insulation breakdown, donut would arc. Bill Cahill :thmbsp:

Tnx guys for your sage advice. I ended up rewinding the 1B3 heater winding with some inner conductor from some RG-58 coax. I found some anode lead but it was too large in diamater the '58 fit great and I was able to make the leads a little longer so I could get them away from the donut. While I had the flyback out I wire brushed the chaiss and gave it a lite coating of gray hammertone paint. It was really rusty. My wife was nice enough to make up some reproduction of the labels that go on the back end of the set. It's all back together and working well like a daily watcher should. So It's coming along nicly just few minor issues to deal with.
