Neat Color Bar generator

3 Attachment(s)
I was looking through an electronics salvage this afternoon, when I came across this AR-64b RCA color bar generator.

The cords have been hacked and I have no idea if it works or not, but it was only ten bucks and I figured, what the hell...

I also Found the neat promo sheet that goes with it. If someone is interested in a readable copy, PM me with your address.

I use one of these. I wish I had the service manual. It'll be no big problem to get going. If you loosen the screws on the thing the cords are wrapped around, and slide it off, the adjustments are under there. If it doesnt work, wont lock or something, you can hook it up to a known good set and twist screws one at a time (noting where they were) until the sync locks, and you have good patterns. The only thing I dont know is if the 100% on the chroma knob is accurate. I wish I had the manual so I could check that.

John,

I've sent you a private e-mail regarding the manual.

However, I will give you a direct quote from the manual text: "The CHROMA control may be used to check the color sync lock ability of the receiver. The 100% position of the control represents normal color sync burst amplitude."

Strangely, for several months now the Orlando market has had a great free colour bar generator on UHF channel 47. Reception itn't always the best but I'm surprised the broadcast equipment would be broadcasting dead air like that for so long.

The little religious station in my area shows bars on one of their digital channels overnight. Quite handy, but I wish they also had it on their analog channel.

Looks like a low power translator station offering Spanish language religious programming. Being a somewhat new broadcasting outlet, I think they have plenty of open broadcast time on their schedule.

When one of the local stations, WMDT 47, came on the air c.1980 they had nothing on from 7:30-8 PM. Just station identification. I still don't understand why they didn't run anything, even an old bw rerun would have been better in my opinion. It must have been that way for a year.
