DC-Restoration, how does it work?

I know what dc restoration is and what it does, but how does it work exactly? I've been curious is to its operation and if there is anything that can be done to improve it in some low cost sets...

Thanks Andy this explains alot. It seems simple enough with a schematic. Are these principals different with a color set? My curtis mathes color set does not have an HV regulator tube, and the restoration on this set is poor. Could similar modifications be made to that set, or is there something else that would need to be done?

Andy, a long time ago I think you posted a schematic for DC restoration for a portacolor. It was lost in the server crash. Could you post it again?

Thanks,

John
